Background:

USANA Health Sciences is one of America’s leading direct sells companies in the field of health and nutrition. USANA’s aim is to help improve the lives of thousands of people around the world in two primary ways: The creation of superior products that customers can always trust and promoting an innovative network marketing program that offers a fair and balanced compensation plan for the average and ambitious entrepreneur.  USANA was founded in 1992 and its Headquarters is in Salt Lake city, Utah.

Products:

USANA specializes in the sale of Personal Care (Skin Care, Skin Treatment, Hair and Body, etc... ), Nutritional (Essentials, Optimizers, Digestion/ Detox, etc...), Diet and Energy (Fiber Bars, Energy Drinks, Nutrimeal Shakes' etc...) Products. In total, USANA has over 50 nutritional items within its product portfolio.

Pros:

• Fairly low start-up cost, you can start your business for less than $30

• Six ways to get paid, earning almost 45% commissions

• Member of The “Direct Selling Association” and is a publicly traded Company

• Well established with an 18 year history of sustained success

Cons:

• Marketing strategies not very innovative, still selling like a ‘90s business in 2010

• Uses a binary compensation plan… good old faithful “find 2 to find 2…”

• Mediocre Closing Strategy days of herding people to a teleconference or webinar are gone

• Your success is still dependant upon your recruits duplicating you (this hurts superstar sellers)

Conclusion:

In conclusion, USANA has great products that truly do improve the lives of those that utilize them.  However, it appears that USANA is more of a great product distributor than lucrative business opportunity.  That being said, if you have the right mind-set, will to win and perseverance needed to succeed in this industry, there is no reason why you can’t make USANA work for you.
